Gary Potgieter is an experienced English lecturer currently teaching in the Remedial English program at the Sharjah Maritime Academy. With over 20 years of expertise in language development, he has worked across both the media industry and the education sector. His writing career began early, with his first articles published at the age of 18 while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Natal, South Africa, where he specialized in English and Media Studies.

After completing his degree, Gary worked as a journalist before transitioning to the linguistics and design department at Capital Media, a regional newspaper group. His rapid ascent within the organization saw him become the head of the department by the age of 25, making him one of the youngest to hold such a position nationally.

Gary later shifted his focus to education, working for an international school in the UAE for three years to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by second-language writers. Upon returning to South Africa, he re-entered the media industry, applying his knowledge to develop training programs for second-language writers. He was selected to lead and refine the linguistics department for Caxton Newspapers, a national media company.

His career took him back to the UAE, where he resumed teaching, including a role as an Academic Manager for an aviation company in Saudi Arabia. In this position, Gary developed specialized content for cadets entering the aviation field while managing a department of 25 teachers, overseeing performance, and identifying training needs.
